Who created this???

I found this beautiful picture in my Drawing Time files today. The signature is cut off, so I don't know who created it, but I love it so much that I had to post it anyway! Please let me know through the comments section if you are the artist, or if you know who drew it.

Edie's gone 3-D!!

Super Duper Fabulous Piece of Art, Edie!! The colours are magnificent, the colouring style absolutely stunning...and the mysterious tufty thingo in the centre just tops it off so wonderfully!! More from where this one came from...ie. your mind and hand...please!!??

Freya Van-Dyke Goodman

Freya, you are drawing such cool and amazing pictures in every session! I collected these six pictures drawn in one session, from a pile of drawings. This is what I see each week: Freya rides her bike to Drawing Time, locks it up, enters the classroom, heads straight to the equipment table, selects her drawing tools quickly with no fuss, sits down and draws solidly and silently for the 90 minute session. Now and then, I'll be lucky enough to collaborate with Freya...and it's heads down for an Anything can Appear in Quite a Short Time experience. Go Freya! Artist on fire!! Bit like that strange little fella on stage, third image from the top.
(You told me what's happening in that picture, but you know what I'm like...it was over a week ago and I've forgotten. It would be great if you could give us a description in the comments section.)
And the set of drawers for your clothes is just terrific! I want a set just like this, I think I would be much better at organising everything if I had one just like this!!

An hour and a half in the life of Girls' Drawing Time

Edie
Lillian
Natalie

Such gorgeous pictures from the girls!!
Here is a selection of drawings created by our female artists just last Thursday. There were many more pictures started and completed but these were the ones that made it to the "Mars: Take home for Blog" folder.
Natalie

Emily

Emily
Lauren

Such different styles...it's great to see. The girls are rolling in developing their own unique drawing styles. They feel free to experiment with line, shape, design and colour... and we are all delighted with the array of images popping up each week.

Edie
Drawing can be so much fun when the fear of making mistakes is removed from the environment...when free choice opens up a world where anything might happen!
Go for it, girls!

Stefeny Cheng

Stefeny returned to Drawing Time last week just for a one-off guest session. Stefeny had been a Drawing Timer for many many years, but had to swap it for homework earlier this year, as she is in Grade Six. So we were sooo glad to see her beautiful face again last week, and watch her bring stunning creatures to life on paper. I was very very lucky to receive this fabulous masterpiece from Stefeny several weeks ago...one of the most beautiful drawings of a peacock that I've ever seen. It's currently on display in my studio....I gaze at it for long periods sometimes, losing myself in peacock dreamtime. I have more work from Stefeny Cheng in the D.T. archives, which I will post up after I finish my Spring cleaning!

Sian Tija- Hennessy

And here's another of Sian's amazing surreal masterpieces...Admit One cinema tickets falling down to... where? Where did they come from anyway? And why cinema tickets? What a beautiful and bizarre piece of art! Sian, if you're reading this, could you let us know the answers to some of these queries...if you have them, I mean. Maybe they just appeared magically on the page, like some art does. ???

Sian's codes.

Sian Tija Hennessy, in her customary manner of creative invention, has made up a code using her very own designer hieroglyphics! Took me a while but I got it! Can you? Let us know if you unearth the secret code....

Lauren Hargreaves

How awesome is this picture by Lauren?! Fingers crooked to the right....so simple and yet so incredibly full of significance somehow. That middle thumb looks just like mine! Lauren, you have a rare talent in coming up with the most unique creations!! Congratulations!

These creatures are soooo mysterious! Looking up and down at each other, with such strange looks on their faces. Is it that they're not smiling that makes them look so mysterious? I am left wondering about the story behind this picture.... there must be something fishy going on! Lauren, I absolutely love your drawings! I hope you can tell me the secret behind this particular drawing if there is one!

Carly Flint

How gorgeous is this picture???!!! I absolutely love it, so much that I could almost eat it! Everything looks so deliciously colourful, thanks to Carly's amazing artistic skills. Carly is a very dedicated artist, she will not move on in a picture until she has made sure that every detail is exactly as she wants. This is an absolutely vital skill in practising how to become a masterful drawer. Congratulations Carly!

Tia Perry

Tia is such a wonderful artist to have in the Drawing Time club. Look at these incredible drawings...the detail and the colouring for a start show us just how dedicated Tia is as an artist. We were lucky enough to have Tia exhibit these pictures to the whole club last term, and explain in person how and why she used these subjects, etc. Tia is one of those artists who sees an accident or mistake not as a failure in adhering to the original plan, but an opportunity to change direction and take the picture to a whole new level. I'm so impressed with your drawing, Tia, and am looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with this next term. Congratulations! By the way, Tia, please feel free to add further comments and descriptions to this post, I'd be delighted to have you share your amazing ideas to an audience beyond the girls' club.

Elli

Elli is very experimental in her art practice. If you look closely at the picture above, you can see Elli has actually rubbed colour over the contours of leaves that she collected outdoors. I can see a geranium leaf shape on the left, isn't it beautiful? I love watching the way Elli proceeds with her art pieces, she is very talented indeed!

Jedda Selke collaborates with the girls at Drawing Time

Jedda and Natalie

Jedda and Emily
Jedda and Greta (detail)
Jedda Selke is a trained art therapist and practising artist, who joined the Girls Drawing Time early this year....and we are all so happy that she is with us.It's obvious from looking at her collaborations with the girls that Jedda = happy and imaginitively beautiful art!
More will be posted within the next month... Jedda collaborates with one, two or sometimes even three girls at one half hour sitting, so there are usually three stunning pieces of art at the end of each weekly session.

Jedda, Lucy and Lauren

Jedda and ??? I shall find out who the amazing artist is who collaborated on this one with Jedda, and post it ASAP!

Girls Drawing Club March 2011

Collaboration between Olivia, Llana and Mars.

In collaborations, anything goes. We tend to bounce off each other as we all draw at once on the same page...
The following images show just what appears in just one session of Girls' Drawing Time, revealing what a truly relaxing and lovely experience it is to draw all together in one room, a place free of constraints and instruction, a place where imaginations can fire up and inspire and express freely, where art magic happens!

The above piece is being created by Edie Benjamin. Note also the mark of a true artist: she's drawn on her hand!
Below: Elli's hands after working on a particularly atmospheric artpiece. The smudges of a true artist!

And below again, check out the poetry that can magically appear in Drawing Time! Greta was good enough to read out her poem to the rest of the girls...what a treat! An all-rounder artist for sure, her poem was absolutely amazing, conjuring up images of the sea so strongly that we could almost smell the salty waves! Natalie was so inspired by Greta's poetry that she began her own composition, that was just as beautifully evocative as Greta's!

Below is Llana's broken heart artpiece. Love it!
