Sian Tjia Hennessy

Sian has been a Drawing Time artist for quite a few years now, inspiring the other girls with her quirky sense of humour and individual style of drawing. Unafraid of artistic challenge, criticism, or experimentation, Sian seizes every new blank page with great relish....confident that whatever may materialize from under her industrious pencil, it will be a completely new idea, probably never ever seen before on Earth! I love Sian's surprises...such imagination and natural artistic assuredness is completely delightful in someone of her age ( 9 years old? I'll get back on this one). Check out the banana ear on that creature to the right....fantastic!

Rachel Madin

Rachel Madin, like her sister Rebecca, was greatly inspired by Salvador Dali's Liquid Desire exhibition this year. Every week in Drawing Time, Rachel produces a surrealist masterpiece. She has enough now to publish  her own surrealist coffee table picture book! Look out for more postings of Rachel's art over the next month. Sadly, Rachel and her sister Rebecca will be leaving Drawing Time next year, as they will be attending a different school too far away from Drawing Time....but hopefully we can convince both of them to keep sending us their amazing drawings for this blogsite. Fingers crossed!

Lillian Gutteridge

Lillian is our resident horse expert in Drawing Time, she loves horses so much that she draws nothing else! Her drawings are really beautiful...notice how Lillian attends to detail and composition...and also the care with her colouring...a real inspiration for the other girls around her to dedicate every minute of each session to drawing exactly what you want to draw in the way you want to draw it!

Mia Murdoch Benda

Mia is full of surprises at Drawing Time...every drawing she produces has it's own particular Mia stamp of humour and style....amazing for a six year old. The beautiful pink and orange drawing in this post is titled: Jellybean having a sleep. Look closely, and you can see the little table beside the jelly bean's bed, with spectacles on it! What an imagination!

Yasmine Khayat

Yasmine is a dedicated artist, focusing mainly on drawing the female form, paying much attention also to the facial details. She is a very enthusiastic artist, she enjoys using reference books for guidance, and is not afraid to challenge herself. Yasmine has only just finished Grade Prep at school... her drawing skills are amazing for someone so young. She doesn't miss much, she has a real eye for detail.

Emily Hodgson

Emily Hodgson has been a Drawing Time artist for a long time now, and her own unique style has unfolded over that time. Below is a lovely drawing taken from Emily's "Wildflowers" series, and on the left is her famous contemporary cat masterpiece! Emily challenges herself in every session to find new ways of seeing and drawing. The girls like me to tell them a story every week, and Emily actually illustrates the story in real time as it's being told! At the end of the story, she shows me how the story looks on paper!

Grace Clemens

These two stunning masterpieces were drawn by Grace Clemens in the last month.

Freya Van Dyke Goodman

It's hard to believe that Freya Van Dyke Goodman

is only 6 years old. By the look of her artwork, it would be easy to think they were drawn by a much older artist. Freya's drawings demonstrate a remarkable confidence in experimenting with colour and ideas, as well as technical skills.

Olivia Tiplady-Pringle

Olivia Tiplady-Pringle joined Drawing Time Girls Only this year, and has already proved to be a real inspiration for all the girls in the club. These two masterpieces show off Olivia's gorgeous sense of humour and style, as well as her advanced technical skills.

Rebecca Madin

These two beautiful drawings show off Rebecca's colouful imagination and artistic talent. Rebecca always takes the time to attend to detail with great care and determination, and loves an artistic challenge. She was greatly inspired by the artwork of Salvador Dali after visiting the Liquid Desire exhibition at the NGV this winter, and enjoyed exploring the realm of dreams and imagination in her drawing.

Drawing Time: Girls Only

Drawing Time is about providing a comfortable space for children aged 5 - 12 years to draw freely without distractions, interruptions, interference, or criticism. The Girls Only Drawing Time Club is held at the Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre every Thursday afternoon of the school term, from 4pm to 5:30 pm. Everything is provided,  including reference books, a variety of drawing equipment and paper, snacks and cordial. Mars Drum, practising artist and teacher, is available during the sessions to collaborate with individuals, give guidance when requested, and tell stories for inspiration if requested by the group.
